Statutes are not static documents. Their meaning changes over time through amendments and judicial interpretation. This can make it surprisingly difficult to determine what the law actually was at a particular point in time. ASOF is a living statutory intelligence platform that reconstructs an Act across time. Users can enter an Act and a specific section to see its statutory text, current legal status, amendment history, relevant judicial decisions, and a visual timeline of important legislative and judicial developments. The tool also surfaces cases that have interpreted a provision and identifies situations where judicial decisions have changed its practical meaning without the statutory text itself being amended, for example, where a provision has been read down or struck down.
The result is a single, visual answer to four questions lawyers constantly struggle with:
What did the law say? → What changed? → What did courts make it mean? → What law and authorities apply now?
