About the Project

Online legal research has long been plagued for the longest time by timeout errors, buggy websites, and unreliable interfaces. Perhaps the worst thing is learning BOOLEAN operations to just find a case! (ifykyk).

These websites, although possessing vast databases of materials, do not utilize them efficiently. ASIMOV proposes to bring a complete overhaul to how legal research is approached. Instead of having several tabs open to research one matter, ASIMOV aims to consolidate all the necessary tools a researcher would need into one website!

  • Need to jot down something while you read an important judgment? We have a notepad!
  • Need to compare two judgments side-by-side? There's a compare option!
  • Want to have multiple sessions at once? Say hello to the session docket!

Whatever problem you have faced while researching cases, whether it be for tomorrow's hearing/Moot court competitions/writing articles... ASIMOV has and will answered!

But this websites' capabilities are only beginning to unravel. ASIMOV also systematically integrates AI to have a legally attuned assistant for legal research, while the dedicated ASIMOV analysis option for every judgment pulls out the ratio, obiter, commentary and even the bench split along with the dissenting opinion! Future iterations of ASIMOV aim to not only work with case laws but also other legal texts and manuscripts. Check out the features list for a detailed rundown of the sites current capabilities!

Please watch the embedded video for a full demonstration!

Practice Areas

Key Features

1. Live Case Search

ASIMOV primarily focuses on case law searches by integrating IndianKanoons API with court/state/year filters and deduplication.

2. Session Docket

A persistent sidebar that allows for multiple "dockets", in which cases can be added and arranged into folders through a dedicated UI and a drag-and-drop feature. Also contains in-line renaming and a portal-rendered context menu. Above all, the full session docket can be downloaded in its entirety in the order it has been arranged as a zip file.

3. Judgment Comparison Window

side-by-side panels that allow independent scrolling with a "find in judgment" feature. Can pull cases from the session docket to the compare window as well along with a case search option in compare mode.

4. Dedicated Notepad

ASIMOV comes with its own dedicated notepad that is floating, resizeable, and draggable, allowing for seamless placement anywhere on the screen. Allows for basic formatting like bold, italics, underlining, text alignment, and lists. The Notepad can also have multiple sessions, which allows a user to create notes on multiple topics at once. And similar to the Session Docket, it can also be downloaded with all changes made in the browser version reflected in the downloaded version.

5. ASIMOV Analysis

Structured JSON extraction that brings out the ratio decidendi, obiter dicta, bench strength, dissenting opinion in addition to facts of the case, citations, etc.

6. Ask ASIMOV

A dedicated chat feature is present on the home page that is attuned to answer legal queries and cross-references with databases to ensure accuracy.
