About the Project

-RAKSHAK is an AI-assisted platform that helps victims of caste-based atrocities and personal crisis get triaged, understood, and connected to real legal recourse anonymously, in minutes. A victim-facing assessment combines clinical screening (PHQ-9, GAD-7, PCL-5, C-SSRS suicide-risk ladder, Danger Assessment) with SC/ST atrocity-pattern detection trained on real case data, surfacing severity, applicable law (SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, POCSO, POSH), and the exact redressal channel NALSA free legal aid, NCSC/NCST, NHRC, or the nearest Special Court with landmark case law cited for context, never as legal advice. A separate Authority Dashboard lets officers triage incoming cases by severity, and a standalone Lawyer Assistant lets advocates run quick pattern checks or summarize full case documents (FIR/chargesheet/judgment) with extracted entities, then optionally track cases by case number and court for follow-up. Built privacy-first: assessments work fully anonymously, and any optional account is scoped to a browser tab (not persistent), because some users are on shared or unsafe devices. -The Lawyer Assistant is a standalone workspace built for advocates handling SC/ST atrocity cases, separate from the victim-facing assessment tool. It offers two modes: a Quick Pattern Check, where a lawyer pastes a short excerpt and instantly sees matched atrocity patterns, severity score, and applicable law; and Case Document Summary, where a full FIR, chargesheet, or judgment (PDF/DOCX/TXT) is parsed into a structured brief case overview, key facts, detected offense categories, extracted entities (FIR number, sections/acts cited, dates, parties, courts), applicable legal provisions with matched Supreme Court case law, and suggested next steps, downloadable as a plain-text summary ready to present. Every result carries a priority review flag when severity and firsthand testimony markers align, so the most urgent cases surface first. Lawyers can optionally create an account (name, email, password, BCI enrollment number) and tag any check or summary with a case number and court, then track its status later in a "My Tracked Cases" view turning a one-off lookup into an ongoing case record, without ever requiring an account to use the core tool.

---Future Roadmap ------

---AI / Detection -

-Move from keyword + fuzzy matching to a real semantic embedding model (already scaffolded, currently falls back to keyword-only) for deeper contextual understanding of disclosures. -OCR support so scanned/photographed FIRs and handwritten complaints can be summarized, not just clean digital PDFs/DOCX/TXT. -Continuously retrain on real, verified case data via partnerships with legal aid organizations and NCSC/NCST.

---Accessibility -

-Multi-language input and output — Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, etc. — since most victims don't disclose in English. Voice-based intake for low-literacy or non-reading users, converting spoken testimony to text before analysis. -Offline-first / low-bandwidth mode for rural areas with poor connectivity. -SMS or WhatsApp-based reporting channel for feature-phone users with no smartphone access.

---Legal Infrastructure -

-Integration with e-Courts / National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) for real-time case status instead of manually tracked case numbers. -Automated legal document drafting — generate a complaint draft, RTI application, or appeal skeleton, not just summarize an existing one. -Auto-routing to the nearest District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) or empanelled NALSA lawyer based on victim location. -Court-ready export formatting (proper legal document layout, not plain text).

---Collaboration & Workflow -

-Connect the Authority Dashboard, Lawyer Assistant, and victim account so a case flows between all three roles instead of living in separate silos. -Notification system — SMS/email alerts to the victim and lawyer when a case status changes (assigned, escalated, resolved). -Multi-lawyer / NGO case collaboration on a single tracked case.

---Scale & Security -

-Move from flat JSON file storage to a production database (PostgreSQL/MongoDB) for real-world scale. -Encryption at rest, rate limiting, and audit logging on all account and case data. -Two-factor authentication for lawyer/authority accounts handling sensitive case data.
