FirstCounsel

A professional network where India's next generation of lawyers find each other.

About the Project

FirstCounsel is a professional network built for lawyers who start their careers with no inherited connections. In India, roughly 60,000 to 70,000 law graduates enroll as advocates every year, and most of them have no mentors already in place, no reputation waiting for them, and no way for anyone outside their circle to know what they can do. The tools that exist today (LawRato, Vakilsearch, LegalKart, and similar platforms) solve the client's problem of finding a lawyer who already has a reputation. None of them help the lawyer build one in the first place.

FirstCounsel flips that. It's a closed, searchable network for lawyers to find each other: a verified advocate directory (searchable by court, practice area and city, with every profile backed by peer, senior or faculty verification), a case referral board for passing work to trusted counsel in another court or city, and a chamber hiring board where junior placements are posted with real detail, experience bands, retainer figures, and what the work actually involves. A feed lets lawyers post case notes, wins and questions, and a plain-language judgment tracker keeps everyone current on recent Supreme Court, High Court and Tribunal decisions.

Because it's a network among lawyers rather than a public directory clients can search, it's built clear of BCI Rule 36 by design, the same rule that got Quikr, Sulekha, Just Dial and Grotal cease-and-desist notices from the Bar Council in 2024 for turning lawyer listings into searchable client-facing directories.
