About the Project

One of the biggest challenges in our justice system today is ensuring that evidence remains authentic and unaltered from the moment it is collected to the moment it is presented in court. Cases are often delayed, questioned, or even dismissed due to concerns about tampered evidence, missing records, or lack of a clear chain of custody.

Our project directly addresses this problem. It is a secure digital platform designed for police officers, judges, and legal professionals to manage criminal case records and evidence in a safe, transparent, tamper-proof manner, with an unbroken and verifiable chain of custody.

In simple terms, it works like a highly secure digital case file system. When a case is registered, all documents, evidence, and updates related to it are uploaded to the platform, and the case can be tracked and managed from start to finish.

Every single action carried out on the system, whether it's adding a new document, updating case details, or granting access, is automatically recorded to create an immutable audit trail. This means a complete, permanent, and unchangeable history is maintained of everything that happened to a case, including who did what and when, leaving no room for hidden changes or unexplained gaps in the record.

Access to the system starts right from login, where role-based access control (RBAC) is applied. This means that at the very first step of entry, the system identifies whether the user is an officer, a reviewer, or a judge, and grants them access only to the information and actions they are authorized for. This ensures confidentiality, prevents unauthorized viewing or editing of sensitive case data, and keeps clear accountability for every user.

At the heart of the system is tamper-proof document management. Once a document or piece of evidence is uploaded, it cannot be secretly edited, replaced, or deleted by anyone, including those with administrative access. Any attempt to alter a file is immediately flagged, ensuring that what was originally submitted as evidence remains exactly as it was, protecting the case from manipulation or dispute later in the legal process.

This security is reinforced further through blockchain technology. Whenever a document or piece of evidence is uploaded, a unique digital fingerprint of that file is created and stored on the blockchain, a system where once something is recorded, it cannot be changed, deleted, or hidden by anyone. If a document is ever altered even slightly, it will immediately be detected, since it will no longer match its original fingerprint. This gives the evidence a level of trust and legal credibility that traditional file storage simply cannot offer.

For handling paperwork, OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology automatically scans uploaded documents and converts them into readable, searchable text, even if they were originally handwritten notes, scanned forms, or photographed pages. Artificial intelligence then reads through this content and assists in analyzing case details, saving significant manual effort in reviewing lengthy files.

Case updates are managed through a version control system, similar to how document revisions are tracked. Every time a case file or piece of evidence is updated, the previous version is preserved rather than overwritten, allowing officers and judges to view the complete history of changes and revert back to earlier versions if required.

The core idea is simple: no evidence can be lost, altered, or tampered with once it enters the system, and every action is traceable, which strengthens the integrity of the justice process and protects against manipulation or corruption of evidence. In a nutshell, this project has the potential to modernize how evidence and case records are handled in our legal system, improving both the credibility of the justice process and the speed at which justice is delivered.

Help Needed

Due to the involvement of live blockchain transactions in our project, we are unable to provide a publicly deployed link or a demo URL at this stage, as continuous deployment would incur real network costs. That said, the project is fully built and functional, and we would be happy to walk you through a live demonstration during the presentation or evaluation, showcasing all core features.
