About the Project

Every day, thousands of undertrial litigants and families navigate Indian district courts in a state of confusion and anxiety. Most people don’t need an ungrounded AI hallucinating case outcomes or legal strategies — they need to understand basic court procedure: where their case currently stands, what their order means, and what specific steps happen next.

Court Navigator is a source-grounded procedural navigation engine and document decoder, built specifically for criminal bail applications in Madhya Pradesh District Courts (V1).

Instead of a generic chatbot, Court Navigator functions like "Google Maps for court procedure":

  1. Procedural Roadmap: An interactive 7-stage journey (Prepare → Filing → Scrutiny → Listing → Hearing → Order → Next Step) with live "YOU ARE HERE" tracking.
  2. Court Document Decoder: Litigants can paste or upload court notices and orders to automatically extract dates, case references, and stage mapping, accompanied by an explicit list of "what cannot be safely inferred."
  3. Branch-Aware "What Happens Next": Provides typical, conditional, and order-dependent next steps, preparation tasks, and things to watch out for.
  4. Strict Anti-Hallucination Guardrails: Cites only primary sources (eCourts, High Court portals, India Code), refuses outcome predictions, and avoids section-number confusion during the CrPC/BNSS transition.
  5. Bilingual Access: Full seamless English and Hindi (Devanagari) toggle designed for Indian court vernacular.

Practice Areas

Key Features

• 7-Stage Interactive Roadmap: Visual timeline with "YOU ARE HERE" indicators, stage meaning, and primary source citations. • Procedural Document Decoder: Deterministic & schema-validated extraction for court orders and notices (dates, case refs, stages, and safety limits). • "What Happens Next" Engine: Branch-aware guidance showing typical vs conditional paths, preparation checklists, and courtroom watch-outs. • Zero-Hallucination AI Architecture: Bounded exclusively to verified procedural corpus; automatically refuses strategy or win-prediction queries. • Bilingual (English & Hindi): Native Devanagari Hindi procedural explanations and glossary tailored for Indian courtroom litigants. • Procedural Checklist & Glossary: 10 interactive verification items and 16 searchable terms with source provenance badges. • Honest Jurisdiction Scoping: Explicitly scoped to MP District Courts with transparent "Coming Soon" states rather than simulated nationwide coverage.

Help Needed

Looking for feedback from legal aid advocates, procedural workflow datasets for expanding to other state High Courts, and user testing with first-time litigants.
