About the Project

Buying AI tools for your legal team is harder than it should be. Most comparison guides are written by people who haven't used the tools, funded by the vendors being reviewed, or too generic to inform an actual purchasing decision. You end up on a sales call before you have any real information.

The Legal AI Tool Review exists to fix that.

It's an independent, practitioner-scored guide to the AI tools legal teams are actually evaluating — from legal-specific platforms like Harvey, Wordsmith, and GC AI to general-purpose tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini. Each tool is scored across 10 criteria that matter for legal work.

Every reviewer discloses what matters to them, what tools they already use, and their pain points — so you can find the reviewer whose situation looks like yours and weight their scores accordingly. No sponsored placements. Just lawyers sharing what works for them in their situation.

The result is a living document that gets more useful as more individuals contribute — and a faster, more honest path to knowing what to buy.

Practice Areas

Key Features

  • Independent scores — every tool rated across 10 criteria by practicing lawyers, not vendors or analysts
  • Reviewer transparency — each reviewer discloses their stack, pain points, and what matters to them so you can find your match
  • Live AI news feed — real-time updates for each tool pulled fresh on demand
  • Methodology page — full explanation of how scores are calculated and weighted
  • Reviewer submission form — practitioners can submit their own scores and takes, feeding a moderated Notion database
  • Filter and compare — sort by category, score, pricing, and use case
  • No sponsored content — no affiliate links, no vendor relationships, no paid placements
  • Built in public — the tool itself was built by a GC with no engineering background using AI, and that's documented too

Help Needed

  • Reviewers - practicing lawyers, in-house counsel, and legal ops professionals who are actively using AI tools and willing to share honest scores and takes. The more diverse the roles, firm sizes, and practice areas, the more useful the resource becomes for everyone.

  • Testers - people willing to kick the tires on the site itself and report bugs, confusing UX, or missing information.
